Supplements manufacturer aims to improve collaborative planning processes, make better forecasts for production planning

Waltham, MA — September 29, 2003 — Weider Nutrition International, a provider of nutritional supplements and sports nutrition products to mass merchandisers, has tapped a demand management solution from Demantra in a bid to improve collaborative planning processes and more accurately forecast demand for production planning purposes.

Weider develops, manufactures, markets and sells branded and private label vitamins, nutritional supplements and sports nutrition products in the United States and throughout the world.

The company will use Demantra's Spectrum solution as part of an effort to improve collaboration between its national sales and marketing and supply chain divisions in order to synchronize efforts throughout the supply chain, with the goals of reducing forecast error, inventory holdings and stock outs.

During the first phase of the implementation, Weider will use Spectrum's demand management capabilities to produce more accurate demand plans, improving consensus forecasting for production planning purposes. With better visibility into sales and promotional plans, supply chain managers are looking to avoid stock outs and ensure that the right amount of products is available on store shelves at all times.

As collaboration is one of the most pressing obstacles facing Weider, the solution will provide a planning environment for its sales force, which Weider hopes will help it to respond faster to market changes.

"As branded and private label competition continues to build in the consumer products industry, it is vital for us to have a collaborative solution that provides better visibility into the supply chain," said David Crowther, director of business applications at Weider. "We chose Demantra Spectrum for the solution's ease-of-use, robust functionality, flexibility and its ability to perform tasks critical to solving current issues and problems in a timely manner."
