Product lifecycle management initiative reduces product development costs for electronics manufacturer

Westford, MA November 12, 2003 Toshiba Corp., a manufacturer of electronic and electrical products, announced this week it has deployed MatrixOne's product lifecycle management (PLM) solutions as part of a major initiative to transform its product development practices and support new outsourced manufacturing programs.

To drive the production of high quality products more quickly at a lower cost, Toshiba said it has developed a single, secure environment based on MatrixOne PLM solutions that enables cross-functional teams from marketing, planning, design, procurement and manufacturing to work more effectively across departmental and corporate boundaries.

Utilizing MatrixOne solutions for program management, product engineering and supplier relationship management, Toshiba said it has shortened time-to-market and reduced product development costs while meeting Six Sigma and ISO quality guidelines.

With MatrixOne Program Central, Toshiba said it is able to manage project status and uncover bottlenecks in real time while also controlling tasks and deliverables. With 600 users today and an estimated 2,300 users by the end of 2003, MatrixOne Program Central is shortening Toshiba's time-to-market for its products.

Toshiba is also using MatrixOne Engineering Central, which enables users from sales, product design, purchasing, production and service to access the same bill-of-materials in real-time via the Internet, driving improved product quality. MatrixOne Team Central provides a virtual workspace where suppliers, product designers and buyers can collaborate early in the design process to avoid mistakes downstream.
