Keeping Critical Cargo Cool

Envirotainer, Savi partner to offer real-time management of temperature-controlled air cargo units

Tempe, AZ October 14, 2002 Envirotainer, a provider of temperature-controlled air cargo solutions, is working with Savi Technology to extend the functionality and capabilities of Envirotainer's existing information system by deploying Savi's software platform and asset management and security software applications.

The two companies said the complementary solution is going to serve as the foundation for a real-time information-sharing network in the $8 billion marketplace for temperature-sensitive air cargo.

Savi said its solution is going to help Envirotainer to improve the management, security and visibility of temperature-controlled air cargo unit load devices (ULDs) and the sensitive goods they transport worldwide, such as pharmaceuticals, seafood, meat, produce and semiconductors.

The initial phase of the ULD management network will enable Envirotainer to provide real-time information on the status, location, condition, security and performance of the temperature-controlled ULDs, which it manufactures and leases to air freight carriers, logistics service providers and shippers. Envirotainer owns and operates close to 3,000 temperature-controlled ULDs, providing operational services at more than 120 international airports in over 35 countries.

Envirotainer will use Savi's Asset Management System and Supply Chain Logistics Portal to leverage the Internet to electronically pool and reconsign its ULDs from multiple airlines and locations with the goal of enhancing operational efficiency, asset utilization and customer service.

In addition, Envirotainer's customers will be able to go online to book ULDs, track their movements and the security of their contents, monitor temperature history, and review shipping patterns.

According to Savi, its software and collaboration portal includes ULD acquisition features, financial and demurrage information, planning capabilities, billing status, flight details, updates on storage and maintenance schedules, and performance analytics.
