Vignette unveils knowledge base

Austin, TX March 22, 2001 e-Business software provider Vignette today unveiled its Vignette Global Marketplace (VGM), an online application service that offers personalized customer solutions, hosted services and e-business knowledge to build long-term, sustainable customer relationships.

Built using Vignette's content, integration and analysis applications, VGM is designed to help customers and partners build and support an e-business, including a personalization engine to help users find what they need and online collaboration features that bring users and information together.

Vignette says VGM will help customers and partners go to market faster and more effectively by delivering targeted knowledge and offering various online collaboration tools. Vignette packages this knowledge 9 including best practice methods, online training, maps, products, applications, services and road maps 9 in a repository, allowing its intellectual asset to be easily tapped.

Vignette also has built new application services to simplify finding the right information within its knowledge base. Vignette Solution Builder, for example, is a role-based knowledge management tool that combines implicit and explicit personalization techniques through an inquiry process. This process enables users to describe a scenario, their role within a project, the industry they are involved in and the goals they want to achieve, and then delivers a customized solution.

"DaimlerChrysler's customers expect world-class service and support from us, and Vignette's applications allow us to provide the same level of service online as we do in our showrooms," said Dr. Norbert Brändli, director of ITM marketing, sales and business-to-consumer (B2C) e-business at DaimlerChrysler. "One key ingredient to offering the highest level of service and support is the ability to rapidly evolve to meet the changing demands of our customers, and the Vignette Global Marketplace has proven an invaluable resource in helping us achieve these goals."

Through VGM, users can access hosted services such as collaborative workspaces to manage projects online, software asset management, and moderated expert discussion forums. These hosted services are designed to help companies decrease their time-to-market by enabling them to consult with Vignette implementation experts as well as receive software patches and applications instantaneously, helping them build a better Internet presence.

"We believe Vignette Global Marketplace will fundamentally change the way software companies communicate, interact with and react to their customers and partners," said Bill Daniel, senior vice president of products at Vignette. "VGM contains so much information and knowledge that we believe any company, no matter the size, can benefit from its resources."

Customers and partners can use Vignette's content, integration and analysis applications individually, in conjunction with third-party solutions or as a fully integrated application suite.
