New bom.com functionality for cost and sourcing analytics

Mountain View, CA December 3, 2001 bom.com, a provider of Web-native software for product development, today introduced new software functions that, according to the company, will improve customers' cost and sourcing analytics.

In a statement issued by bom.com, the company said these features were created so hardware design and manufacturing businesses could streamline supply chain information management and make strategic sourcing decisions throughout the development process.

"In order to stay competitive in today's markets, hardware manufacturers require better sourcing capabilities earlier in product development," said Michael Topolovac, CEO and co-founder of bom.com. "Many companies cobble together a combination of manual systems and [materials resource planning] tools that generally do a poor job at offering early visibility into product costs and tracking detailed sourcing information. bom.com gives companies an advantage by providing an application tailored for managing complex design chains and processes from the earliest stages of development."

The new bom.com functions focus on component and supplier management (CSM) for capturing cost and sourcing data; and for gaining early visibility into volume requirements, detailed cost estimates, target margins and other information needed to make strategic sourcing decisions. In addition, the software functions include complete purchasing history, supply chain relationship management, improved cost analysis, and instant sourcing analytics

The company said the purchasing and sourcing functionality is offered as part of the bom.com application and is available immediately at no additional cost to bom.com customers.
