Italy's Postecom deploys Ariba platform across Poste Italiane, to offer ASP to other enterprises

Rome November 20, 2002 Postecom, the Internet and intranet services subsidiary of Poste Italiane Group, has deployed an e-procurement solution from Ariba to the group's employees in a bid to cut the company's corporate spend.

More than 28,000 users at Poste Italiane Group will be able to access Buyer, Ariba's flagship e-procurement platform. In addition, Postecom recently selected Ariba's Contracts solution to complement its Buyer solution.

"We will be able to rationalize spending across the entire organization, delivering both cost savings and efficiencies to the bottom line," said Gioacchino Russo, sales and marketing director of Postecom. The company is hoping to save tens of millions of dollars through its use of the solution.

Postecom also plans to develop application service provider (ASP) services based on Ariba's spend management solutions to provide other Italian companies with access to the applications.

"Because of the expertise achieved on e-procurement solutions, we also plan to offer Ariba Spend Management to other Italian companies," said Russo. "This will help other organizations to become more competitive through the adoption of an ASP e-procurement solution, while keeping focused on their core business."

Poste Italiane offers postal and banking services to the Italian market through a network of more than 14,000 post offices. Last year, the company had revenue of about $6.5 billion.
