Prophet 21 CommerceCenter Helps Distributors Gain Efficiencies

Selecta Switch and CCA's Choice of Prophet 21 Provides Further Evidence of the Value CommerceCenter Brings Distributors

Yardley, PA March 26, 2003 Distributors across the U.S. are breaking free of the limitations of their legacy systems by moving to Prophet 21 CommerceCenter.

Powerful and highly customizable, Prophet 21 CommerceCenter uses a Windows-based platform and SQL Server, which enables distributors to increase sales, improve customer service and reduce operating costs.

CommerceCenter features include order and inventory management, purchasing, pricing, financial management, customer relationship management, business reporting and analysis, e-business, and warehouse automation.

"CommerceCenter offers distributors scalability and flexibility other systems can't match," says Chuck Boyle, Prophet 21 president and CEO. "Distributors such as Selecta Switch and Control Corporation of America's choice of Prophet 21 as a technology partner provides further evidence of the value we bring distributors who want to streamline their processes and drive more revenue to their bottom line."

Selecta Switch

John Kenyon, CEO of the California-based master distributor Selecta Switch, recently chose to invest in Prophet 21 CommerceCenter because he wanted his entire staff to focus on the distribution industry. "We had a homegrown legacy software, and wanted to concentrate on growing our business instead of our software," he said.

Since CommerceCenter is scalable as well as expandable, Kenyon will be able to open locations nationwide something that wouldn't have been possible with his legacy system. "It would have been a nightmare," he said. "Connectivity was incredibly limited."

Kenyon also noted that his industry electrical and electronic goods distribution is very competitive. However, CommerceCenter will give him an edge in the form of increased efficiencies. "Instead of servicing the customer three times once to take an order, a second time to confirm, and a third time to let him know when to expect the shipment we can do everything in one call," Kenyon said. "That's five minutes, instead of a half hour."

Control Corporation of America

Across the country, in Richmond, VA, Control Corporation of America (CCA), a three-year CommerceCenter user, is seeing significant results. Since moving from a legacy system, CCA's total dollar volume is up almost 15 percent with 15 percent fewer people. "Increased efficiencies have been our biggest payback," said Ken Mynes, CCA executive vice president.

In addition to reducing operational expenses and increasing sales volume, CommerceCenter has helped CCA, a leader in the multi-billion dollar automation industry, maintain and boost profitability in some pretty substantial ways. For example, CommerceCenter's open database and extensive pricing library enables CCA staff to effortlessly download suppliers' price updates.

"If you are a month late in implementing a price update for a particular vendor, you could lose 30 percent of all the profits you would have made for that particular vendor for the whole year," Mynes testified. "With CommerceCenter, we implement price updates immediately, so we're not selling a product for less than what we paid for it."

Concluded Mynes: "The fundamental difference between our legacy software provider and CommerceCenter is that Prophet 21 really knows how we do business, and helps us optimize our processes."

About Prophet 21
Since 1967, Prophet 21 has been a leader in providing durable goods distributors with innovative, adaptive solutions essential for running their businesses. Lombardi Software's Business Event Management Capabilities Prove to Be Critical for Continuous Process Improvement

TeamWorks Undercover Agents actively monitor for mission-critical business events, providing ongoing process visibility and promoting real-time event resolution

Austin, TX March 27, 2003 Lombardi Software, the developer of TeamWorks, an award-winning business process management (BPM) solution, is proving through deployments with Global 2000 companies that its Undercover Agents are essential for achieving industry-leading results from process improvement initiatives.

TeamWorks' Undercover Agents provide visibility into business events as they occur, enabling organizations to respond to mission-critical issues in real time and proactively improve process inefficiencies that, when not addressed, cost millions of dollars each year in lost revenue, margin and operating expenses.

"Business event management is a critical component of BPM that enables our customers to achieve the highest possible ROI from process deployments," said Rod Favaron, president and chief executive officer of Lombardi Software. "Lombardi Software is the only BPM solution provider that enables both active management and continuous process improvement of high value business processes that directly impact the bottom line."

TeamWorks' Undercover Agents actively monitor for real-time business events that occur throughout multiple internal and external systems, or within specific processes, then quickly evaluate and initiate the appropriate action for rapid process completion. These Undercover Agents are easily created by process developers using the same Zero-Code technology that underlies the entire TeamWorks platform, designed to facilitate the rapid change required to deliver continuous process improvement.

"TeamWorks' ability to monitor disparate data systems for business-level events, evaluate information against a defined set of business rules and intelligently launch the most appropriate resolution process is unprecedented in the BPM industry," said Phil Gilbert, chief technology officer of Lombardi Software.

To help businesses more efficiently identify, manage and resolve issues that could negatively impact the business, TeamWorks monitors for business events, such as:

  • Short-paid invoices that create costly collections or deductions issues

  • Shipment failures that result in customer returns or delayed deliveries

  • Financial discrepancies that increase the cycle time to close books

  • Time-sensitive customer service issues that can impact customer loyalty and retention

  • Supply chain events that can create supply issues

  • Inaccurate customer billing credits to prevent abuse

  • Customer requests for quotes to facilitate delivery/supply commitments

TeamWorks' business event management capabilities enable the process developer to create both pre-emptive and responsive Undercover Agents using Zero-Code components. Additionally, they are designed to be non-invasive to the systems hosting the events.

"TeamWorks Undercover Agents are not meant to replace critical systems management components in the enterprise architecture, rather they add complementary functionality," added Gilbert. "Where systems management and EAI applications manage system activity, Undercover Agents manage the business activity inside those systems."

Responsive Undercover Agents listen for specific events across multiple enterprise message queues, including those provided by TeamWorks. Other applications, internal or external, can send messages to TeamWorks using industry standards such as JMS and HTTP. Pre-emptive Undercover Agents can scan for key business events across the enterprise in real-time or on a scheduled basis. In both cases, the agents evaluate the event and intelligently initiate the appropriate action. Each leverages process-centric synchronous and asynchronous queuing techniques.

The TeamWorks BPM solution with Undercover Agents is now available directly through Lombardi Software. For more information please call 512/382-8200, visit or email

About Lombardi Software
Based in Austin, Texas, Lombardi Software is the developer of TeamWorks, an award-winning business process management solution. By providing ongoing visibility into operational processes, and by increasing the velocity with which they can respond to mission-critical events, businesses such as Dell, Hasbro, Shell and Lockheed Martin are creating new efficiencies and improving profitability with each business cycle, further increasing their value through continuous process improvement. Babcock Power Inc., Joins Enporion e-Marketplace to Reduce Supply Chain Costs and Improve Service to Utility Industry

Major Utility Industry Supplier Will Drive Down Its Purchasing Costs and Will Enable Enporion Benefits for Its Own Suppliers

Tampa, FL March 27, 2003 Enporion, the energy industry e-marketplace helping buyers and suppliers achieve supply chain excellence, and Babcock Power Inc., a worldwide supplier of technology, equipment and services to the power generation industry, today announced Babcock Power's membership in Enporion as a Strategic Buyer Member.

Strategic Buyer Members have access to all the products and services of the Enporion marketplace, including dynamic commerce auctions and the aggregated buying power of group contracts. Babcock Power joins other Enporion strategic buyers that include Ameren, PPL Corporation, KeySpan Energy Services, We-Energies, and other gas and electric energy companies that are seeing significant savings results from membership in Enporion.

In 2002, these members realized 15 percent in direct purchasing savings from the use of auctions, and buying through negotiated group contracts representing more than 35 unique commodity groups achieved another 9 percent savings.

Babcock Power is the first supplier company to join Enporion as a Strategic Buyer Member. Its goal is to achieve the same savings results in its own purchasing operations that energy companies are realizing.

In addition, Babcock Power's membership introduces Enporion's Affiliate Buyers' Program. Babcock Power may sponsor the company's current suppliers of goods and services for membership in Enporion as Affiliate Buyer Members. These suppliers would have access to many of the same services from Enporion as Strategic Buyer Members, allowing them to realize cost and process savings and optimize supply chain performance.

"A successful electronic marketplace must offer benefits to both buyers and suppliers," said Enporion Vice President of Sales Bill Browne. "We are very pleased that Babcock Power has chosen not only to supply our utility company members through the Enporion marketplace, but also to use the power of this marketplace to achieve supply chain savings in its own business.

In addition, working with Babcock Power's suppliers through our affiliate buyers program, we will enable a cascading of savings to the benefit of everyone operating in the utility industry."

According to Babcock Power's Paul Cummins, Director, Domestic and International Procurement, "Babcock Power's membership in Enporion represents a positive transformation of our company from a traditional OEM Supply Management philosophy. Diversified Enporion platforms provide a bridge in which Babcock Power can successfully aggregate its spend across intra-company Supply Management Departments resulting in bottom line cost reductions for our customers. Furthermore, this membership also allows us to leverage additional cost savings directly with key suppliers through the Affiliate Buyers' Program."

About Enporion
Enporion is an electronic marketplace, founded by gas and electric energy companies, to improve the efficiency of business transactions between buyers and suppliers. Enporion's goal is to simplify the buying process and to drive operational excellence through supply chain improvement.
