Energy company eyes using solution to manage full-spend lifecycle from planning to payment

Sunnyvale, CA — June 23, 2003 — Energy company ChevronTexaco is implementing an expanded set of solutions from Ariba in a bid to improve spend visibility, strategically source a wider group of goods and services, and automate more of the procure-to-pay process.

ChevronTexaco, the fifth largest publicly-traded energy company worldwide, has added Ariba's Analysis, Category Management, Enterprise Sourcing, Contracts, Travel & Expense and Invoice solutions to its existing Ariba Buyer procurement solution, which it has been using for the past four years.

ChevronTexaco plans to evaluate its use of the Ariba Spend Management solution set to manage its full-spend lifecycle from planning to payment.

Ariba and ChevronTexaco have been working together to design and implement a solution using Ariba technology to improve ChevronTexaco's spend visibility, facilitate use of strategic suppliers and streamline procure-to-payment collaboration with key suppliers, including those for complex oil field services such as pipeline maintenance and drilling rig services. Ariba says that this collaboration was instrumental in helping the solution provider design the new services spend management features in the latest release of the Ariba Spend Management solutions set.

Since April 2002 ChevronTexaco has collaborated with key suppliers to put more than $100 million of services spend through its Ariba-based spend management solution. Ariba said the benefits of services spend management extend beyond the buying organization in ChevronTexaco to its suppliers by demonstrating the capability to reduce payment cycle times, improve cash flow to suppliers and allow ChevronTexaco to benefit from early payment discounts.

"After early success with Ariba Buyer and the services solution, we are eager to accomplish the next phase of our broader vision for procurement technology and gain the benefits of a total spend management package," said Helmut Porkert, ChevronTexaco's chief procurement officer. "We're pleased with the progress made in managing services spend through the Ariba software and are now gearing up to implement our Ariba solution across the corporation for both materials and services."

After successful Ariba Buyer implementations at five major business units, ChevronTexaco has commenced an enterprise deployment for the Ariba solution set and continues to work with the Ariba Solutions Delivery team for implementation assistance, consulting and support.
