Emptoris in Search for New Chief Executive Officer
Marlin Equity Partners exec takes interim role at supply and contract management solution provider following departure of founding CEO Avner Schneur
Burlington, MA — August 13, 2009 — Supply and contract management solution provider Emptoris is looking for a new CEO after former chief executive Avner Schneur stepped down, the company has announced.
Schneur will continue in an advisory role with Marlin Equity Partners, the private equity firm that is the majority shareholder of Emptoris. Word of his departure had leaked out earlier this month, but Emptoris officially announced his departure today.
Bill Atkinson, currently the group president of technology at Marlin Equity Partners, will serve as interim CEO and chairman of Emptoris, guiding the company's search for a new CEO. Atkinson has more than 20 years of executive and operational experience in enterprise software and technology solutions.
"The company recognizes the legacy of Avner Schneur, who founded the company and led Emptoris to become the market's premier supply and contract management software company," said Atkinson in the company's statement on the transition. "The new CEO will inherit an organization primed for accelerated strategic acquisitions and organic growth, able to deliver the full potential of Emptoris to its customers."
In December 2008 Emptoris was acquired by and received a significant capital investment from Marlin Equity Partners, led by Marlin Partner Nick Kaiser. Since the acquisition, Marlin has been working with the Emptoris management team to map the company's market and solution growth strategies.
Atkinson suggested that Emptoris could see new opportunities as the economy begins to recover and Global 2000 companies look for new ways to take costs out of their business and impact the bottom line. "The company expects its growth to be driven in large part by delivering deeper offerings to customers, such as the integration of the Contract and Services Procurement Management solution business that Emptoris recently acquired from Click Commerce," Atkinson said.
Emptoris said it would be unveiling the latest enhancements to its supply and contract management suite in early October at its user conference in Boston. Recent innovations to the suite include new functionality such as real-time drillable dashboards; sourcing desktop intelligence; a spend enrichment manager; and functions aimed at enabling "agile contract management."
