Dassault Systémes, Planit Holdings Top CAM Software Vendor List
Dassault leads in revenues, Planit for installed seats in latest ranking of computer-aided manufacturing space from PLM analyst CIMdata
Ann Arbor, MI — June 18, 2007 — Dassault Systémes and Planit Holdings are the top vendors in the worldwide computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software market, according to a recent report from product lifecycle management (PLM) analyst firm CIMdata.
In version 16 of its NC Software and Related Services Market Assessment Report, CIMdata named the worldwide CAM software market leaders for 2006 and projected those expected to be market leaders in 2007.
For 2006, Dassault Systémes was the market leader on the basis of both vendor revenues received and end user payments, Planit Holdings was the leader on the basis of both industrial seats shipped and installed, and Planit Holdings was also named as the most rapidly growing vendor.
"Even though there have been a number of recent mergers and acquisitions, the CAM software market continues to be highly fragmented and competitive," noted Alan Christman, CIMdata chairman and primary author of the report. "There is no single vendor or small group of vendors that dominates the worldwide market. CIMdata tracks approximately 50 CAM software vendors, and the rankings in the report each list 20-30 vendors, depending upon the category."
For example, the 2006 leading vendors on the basis of CAM revenue received were Dassault Systémes, UGS PLM Solutions, PTC, Delcam, Planit Holdings, NDES (formerly Hitachi Zosen Systems), Tebis Software, Missler Software, CNC Software and Vero International.
Dassault Systémes and UGS PLM Solutions were the clear leaders with nearly identical revenues and a combined market share of 27.3 percent. The remaining eight vendors in the top 10 had a combined market share of 39.3 percent, and the remainder of the vendors below the top 10 had a combined market share of 33.4 percent.
Top Five by Seats
The 2006 top five vendors on the basis of CAM industrial seats shipped were Planit Holdings, CNC Software, UGS PLM Solutions, PTC, and Delcam. The seat count rankings are significantly different than the vendor revenue rankings. For example, CNC Software was listed as the number two vendor on the basis of industrial seats shipped, but only ninth largest on the basis of vendor revenue received. Conversely, Dassault Systémes was the largest vendor on the basis of revenue received but fell out of the top five on the basis of industrial seats shipped. The changes in rankings are primarily due to the differences in level and breadth of product and associated software pricing among the vendors.
