American Express Creates New Unit to Provide Consulting and Business Development Services
Business Insights to provide analyses based on aggregate spending patterns of approximately 90 million cards in force across 127 markets


New York — November 30, 2009 — American Express has launched a new analytics and consulting organization to provide insights based on analysis of aggregate spending patterns on approximately 90 million cards in force across 127 markets.

The American Express Business Insights service is primarily focused on helping business clients by providing data-driven insights focused on specific customer segments that will help them to develop customized marketing and growth strategies.

Specific consulting applications could include improved procurement processes, along with other services such as identifying consumer spending trends, new product innovation, geographic expansion, customer acquisition and retention, improved marketing and advertising strategies, and customer relationship management.

The approximately 90 million cards in force and more than four billion transactions that take place each year at American Express serve as the foundation for analyzing consumer, small business and corporate spending patterns. Business Insights will customize its analyses and also draw on publicly available market data to provide advice to businesses, American Express said.
