More RFID News from METRO Group: Readers Selected for Real Market Rollout
Retailer to use Sirit's INfinity 510 readers at 99 hypermarket locations throughout Germany
Toronto — July 6, 2007 — Retail giant METRO Group has selected radio frequency identification technology from Sirit as part of the company's 2007 RFID rollout program at 99 Real hypermarket locations throughout Germany.
As an extension of METRO's initial RFID trial initiative, this 2007 rollout program will see one of Sirit's INfinity 510 UHF RFID readers installed in each of the 99 locations to track incoming products using Gen 2 tag technology.
"The INfinity 510's reliable performance and ease of installation, combined with Sirit's outstanding technical and sales support all factored into the decision to award this contract," said Dr. Gerd Wolfram, managing director of MGI METRO Group Information Technology GmbH. "As we move into the deployment phase of RFID, it becomes increasingly important to select partners that deliver both product and services that allow METRO to meet our business objectives - as we have found with Sirit."
Norbert Dawalibi, president and CEO of Sirit, said that METRO's selection of the INfinity solution followed months of competitive testing in which Sirit's offering came out on top. "Clearly the awarding of this contract is a significant validation of the superior performance of Sirit's INfinity 510 reader," Dawalibi said.
Checkpoint Systems, a manufacturer and marketer of RF- and RFID-based solutions for identification, tracking, security and merchandising applications, who participated in the initial trials, will serve as the hardware integrator for the project.
Earlier this week SDCExec.com reported that METRO Group is deploying radio frequency identification infrastructure from Reva Systems in the largest production-scale RFID rollout in Europe. METRO is deploying Reva's Tag Acquisition Processor (TAP) products in a deployment that initially encompasses about 200 locations of the sales brands Metro Cash & Carry, Real stores and the METRO Group distribution centers. The rollout entails installing Reva's technology at each location.
