Alien Adds New Tags, Readers and RFID Training Courses
Introduces Squiggle-SQ Item-level and Squiggle-SH Case Tags; debuts courses targeted at CompTIA certification, non-technical Department of Defense managers
Morgan Hill, CA — October 3, 2007 — Radio frequency identification (RFID) specialist Alien Technology is expanding its portfolio of EPC Gen 2 RFID tags with the introduction of two new form factors for case and item-level tracking in the consumer packaged goods, retail, transportation, government and defense industries.
The company also debuted three new EPC Gen 2 RFID readers targeted at industries such as consumer packaged goods, retail, manufacturing and transportation, among others, and announced the expansion of training courses and professional services at the RFID Solutions Center (RSC) in Dayton, Ohio.
New Squiggle Tags
The new additions to Alien's Squiggle EPC Gen 2 RFID family of tags include the diminutive Squiggle-SQ (ALN-9529), designed to deliver extended range in the item-tagging arena despite being the size of a postage stamp. Alien said that the SQ, with its combination of small size and high performance, will be ideal for use in the pharmaceutical segment as well as other high-value, item-level applications.
Tuned to operate optimally in the 902 to 928 MHz frequency range, the Squiggle-SQ will be available for sampling in October, with volume production in December.
Meanwhile, the new Squiggle-SH is designed to meet the global supply chain's requirement for an inlay that works with a 3-inch label. The Squiggle-SH is available for sampling in December, with volume production in Q1, 2008.
Alien's portfolio of tags also includes the Squiggle (ALN-9540), designed for a range of traditional pallet and case uses, as well as other RFID applications; the 2x2 (ALN-9534), a compact inlay that offers omni-directional performance, is suited for tagging apparel and baggage, and, at 47mm x 42mm, is designed to fit in small labels and tags and delivers performance in the 860 to 960 MHz range; and the M-Tag (ALN-9554), a solution for tagging plastics such as tote bins and pallets with a larger, 94mm x 42mm form factor.
New Gen 2 Readers
Elsewhere, Alien's new EPC Gen 2 RFID readers include the ALR-9900, a mono-static, dense-reader mode, enterprise-class reader for manufacturing, asset management and supply chain applications. The ALR-9900 builds upon Alien's ALR-9800 by improving read rates and deployability, while retaining software compatibility.
