Northwest Seaport Alliance Clean Truck Program will require all port drivers to upgrade to 2007 or new models/engines. If they do not comply, they will be disallowed from port terminals starting April 1, 2018. The current rule states that models and engines have to be from 1994 or newer. Currently, only 53 percent of port drivers are in compliance with the new program.

If the new regulation is enforced, it will cause a shortage of drivers and put a strain on owner-operations.

Seattle port drivers penned a letter to the port agency expressing their frustrations with the new regulations. In the letter, they threaten to file a class action lawsuit against the company. Drivers continue to voice their complaints on social media. Nearly 25 percent of Seattle’s port drivers joined the Facebook page Pier Trucker/ Seattle to demand relief.
