Holiday Shipping Delays Claim Jet.com

Jet.com became one of the first major retailers to tell customers its packages may not arrive before Christmas

Dec. 21, 2015—The crush of Christmas shopping online is beginning to take a toll on retailers. Buzzy e-commerce startup Jet.com Inc. this week became one of the first major retailers to tell customers its packages may not arrive before Christmas.

The company announced in emails to customers and on its website that it cannot guarantee delivery of merchandise in time for Christmas except items eligible for pricey two-day delivery. That makes it one of the first major retailers to make such an announcement, though a full week still remains in the holiday shopping season.

“This year’s holiday gift rush has led to nationwide shipping delays that have affected many of our fulfillment partners,” Jet wrote on its website. “We can no longer confidently guarantee delivery by December 25th for any items not flagged as eligible for two-day delivery.”
