CIMdata’s President to Speak at PI Congress San Diego

Peter Bilello will present “Evolving Systems Thinking and Re-Design to Support the Shift to a More Circular Economy”

Ann Arbor, Mich.Oct. 10, 2014CIMdata, Inc., a global product lifecycle management (PLM) strategic management consulting and research firm, announced that Peter Bilello, president, will be speaking at PI San Diego 2014, which takes place October 21 and 22, 2014, in San Diego, California.

Bilello will present “Evolving Systems Thinking and Re-Design to Support the Shift to a More Circular Economy” at 2:20 p.m. on October 22. According to Bilello, “The time of a linear ‘take, make, dispose’ model is over. To be more cost-efficient and environmentally friendly, huge movements in sustainability are underway throughout industry. This is leading to a more circular economy.” Bilello will discuss the implications of this shift in thinking on technology, strategy and the bottom line.

Highlights of the presentation include:

  • Why the move to a circular economy?
  • How to generate an effective strategy and framework for systems-level re-definition.
  • What are the systems implications of abandoning the linear model?
  • Re-designing systems around reuse, recycle and upcycle.
  • Designing out waste.
  • Rebuilding capital through enhanced product lifecycle models.

“The time has come to rethink how we develop, produce and support products,” said Bilello. “The circular economy makes us rethink our linear approach to the product lifecycle. We need to significantly change our approach, or we will never be able to design, produce, deliver and support fully sustainable products. Business models, positioning, platform strategies and solution offerings all need to be adjusted to support the circular economy.”

Bilello has more than 25 years of experience in the development of business-enabling information technology (IT) solutions for research, engineering and manufacturing organizations worldwide. He participates in PLM analysis, selection, implementation and training; CAD/CAM/CAE/CIM implementation and management; synchronous and lean manufacturing consulting; software engineering; and general data management strategy development and support. He authored numerous papers and research reports on PLM and related topics, and his articles, commentaries and perspectives appear in publications throughout the Americas, Europe and Asia.
