IHS Retains Its HMMS Status to the U.S. Government

U.S. government selects IHS to continue information management support of material and waste management programs

Englewood, Colo.April 24, 2012—Global information and analytics provider IHS announced a multi-year agreement with the U.S. government to continue providing the IHS Hazardous Material Management System (HMMS) at more than 100 U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and National Aerospace and Space Administration (NASA) sites.

“The United States government’s selection validates HMMS software from IHS as the proven standard of excellence for material and waste management,” said Woody Ritchey, Senior Vice President, EHS and Sustainability, IHS. “We are proud to have this opportunity to continue supplying the information management tools that the DoD needs to support the mission of America’s armed forces.”

Under the agreement, IHS will retain its status as the sole provider of software and services that enable efficient tracking of hazardous material containers from their point of generation to final disposal at more than 100 global U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Marine Corps facilities. In addition, IHS will provide system enhancements designed to ensure that DoD facilities remain compliant under local, state and federal regulations as well as military service standards—some of which are more stringent than comparable federal government mandates.

“We are pleased to renew our association with the HMMS team at IHS,” said Dennis Drain, HMMS program manager for the U.S. Department of Defense. “Their proven ability to deliver and support advanced information solutions that drive and implement best practices in hazardous materials and waste management will be key to our continued success in 2012 and beyond.”

Since 1994, the DoD user community has relied on HMMS to provide automated tools that ensure compliance with local, federal and state “Right-to-Know,” chemical inventory, materials management and waste storage and disposal regulations.
