Deals provide fixed-cost solution for maintenance on high-level crane AS/RS equipment

St. Louis — January 23, 2006 — Material handling specialist FKI Logistex has started offering service and maintenance contracts for its high-level crane, automatic-storage-and-retrieval (AS/RS) installations, giving organizations the option of fixing their service and maintenance costs at a set annual amount while receiving coverage for everyday maintenance, predictive maintenance, normal use parts and emergency breakdown repairs.

FKI said it works with each customer to tailor service and maintenance agreements to their specific requirements. For one current customer with seven sites in operation and a further three sites planned for 2006, FKI said it is providing five dedicated regional technicians and a dedicated account manager to oversee all activities. In other instances, clients have opted for on-site representatives available 24/7 at their locations.

The FKI service and maintenance technicians and account managers are trained members of the company's customer service and support team, FKI said. They use a variety of tools, including maintenance reporting software, to keep customers and account managers apprised of service and maintenance activities. An FKI Logistex service and maintenance program can either provide full on-site stock replenishment of spare parts used for service, maintenance and repairs or pull parts from the FKI Logistex St. Louis spares center, dependent on the arrangement with the customer.

"The trend in the material handling industry is for customers to hire industry specialists like FKI Logistex to service and maintain high-level systems such as AS/RS cranes," said Percy May, director of sales and marketing at FKI Logistex North America. "With an FKI Logistex service and maintenance contract in place, all of the responsibility for service and maintenance is with FKI Logistex. This frees customers from having to hire and train their own skilled personnel to service and maintain their cranes."

May added that the service and maintenance contracts enable customers to budget a fixed cost per month for dedicated personnel to look after their crane equipment.
