South Korean government selects networked RFID and software solution from Savi and LG CNS
Sunnyvale, CA, and Seoul — March 8, 2005 — Savi Technology, a provider of radio frequency identification (RFID) supply chain solutions, and LG CNS, South Korea's largest IT service provider with operations worldwide, have formed an alliance to bring Savi's RFID-enabled software solutions to LG CNS's customer base throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
Additionally, through a "Smart Container" program sponsored by the South Korean government to improve the efficiency and security of international cargo container shipments, Savi and LG CNS have begun implementation of Savi's software and RFID solution at the Port of Busan, the world's third largest container port.
Under the Savi-LG CNS partnership agreement, the companies will work together to co-market, integrate and implement Savi's software and inter-linked RFID solutions to the regional supply chain community, primarily to international shippers and their service providers.
The partners have been working together for about one year since signing a Memorandum of Understanding, defining and pursuing shared goals of market development, regulatory affairs, undergoing Savi training courses and working toward the formal partnership agreement announced today.
Launched last December and planned through summer, the "Smart Container" program is being funded by the South Korean Government. The project, called "RFID-enabled Maritime Logistics," is aimed at deploying RFID technologies and solutions to enhance the efficiency and security of global trade with South Korea.
"Smart Containers", equipped with Savi's RFID-enabled tags and sensor products, and monitored by Savi's Transportation Security System (TSS) software, are transporting products from the Port of Busan to major ports along the U.S. West Coast and Europe for major suppliers.
Dr. Soo-Kyoung Lim, vice president of Information Technology Research Division, of LG CNS, said, "We're gratified that the South Korea government recognizes RFID can be a core technology to meet growing international secure trade requirement.
