Retail drug chain is using RedPrairie's solutions to achieve workforce optimization

Orlando, FL — March 23, 2005 — In a bid to set realistic goals for its employees with regard to tasks, Walnut Creek, Calif.-based Longs Drug Stores purchased RedPrairie's workforce performance management solution, the company said this week at the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) Distribution and Logistics Conference.

Longs Drug Stores Corp. is one of the most recognized retail drug store chains on the West Coast and in Hawaii. Through its 472 stores located in California, Hawaii, Washington, Nevada, Colorado and Oregon, Longs Drug Stores serves consumers through customer-oriented pharmacy services and product offerings that include over-the-counter medications, photo and cosmetics. Headquartered in, Longs also provides pharmacy benefit management (PBM) services through its RxAmerica subsidiary.

Longs said it is using RedPrairie's engineered standards to calculate fair goal times associated with each task for its employees. This enables Longs to improve workforce performance based on accurate information and fair standards.

RedPrairie said its solution combines software, engineered standards and change management consulting in order to conduct performance management that can help companies better plan and schedule their workforce to efficiently meet dynamic fulfillment requirements.

Longs is also using RedPrairie's integrated time and attendance application, DLx CompTrak, to track employees from clock-punch through payroll. The application provides tracking and incentive pay capabilities that enable fair and accurate incentive programs. RedPrairie explained that these capabilities, in combination with core performance measurement functionality, make possible a broader degree of efficiency in labor management and compensation.

In addition, Longs is using RedPrairie's DLx ModelRight application to simulate how process changes will impact productivity before the solution is implemented. As a result, Longs can avoid critical barriers to success.

Another important consideration for the Longs management team was access to information and reporting capabilities. RedPrairie offers scorecard application so that supervisors can determine trends, impacting variables to productivity and overall performance by employee or workstation.

"After evaluating other vendors, RedPrairie is clearly the best solution for Longs Drugs," said Longs Chief Information Officer Mike Laddon.
