Providers integrate solutions to speed new product development from concept to delivery via Customer Needs Management solution

Malmo, Sweden and Westford, MA — May 10, 2005 — Telelogic, a provider of solutions for systems and software development, and MatrixOne Inc., a provider of collaborative product lifecycle management (PLM) solutions, are now offering a Customer Needs Management solution that integrates Telelogic DOORS, a solution for requirements management, with MatrixOne Product Central, MatrixOne's solution for managing a portfolio of products, features and configurations throughout the product lifecycle.

The companies said the combined solution is designed to close the gap between customer requirements definition and the downstream design, providing an enterprise-wide view of product requirements to all product stakeholders, like sales and marketing, product management, systems and software engineers, electrical, electronic and mechanical engineers, manufacturing and even customers and suppliers.

According to a recent AMR Research Report entitled, "Don't Launch a Product Without Knowing Your Customer's Needs," "Product launches fail because manufacturers can't meet customer needs. Reasons vary from poor definition of requirements on the front-end of product development, to poor execution to meet those needs later in the design process."

The report went on to say that while the need to design a product to meet customer needs may be obvious to manufacturers, many struggle to execute well within the pressure to speed new innovations to market. "Aligning customer needs with the NPDL process is one of the most important areas manufacturers can target to improve product launch success," according to the report.

The new Customer Needs Management solution uses DOORS to capture, decompose and group requirements, and Product Central then maps and manages those requirements to features and parts.

Users can import requirements documents that are stored in MatrixOne Product Central into DOORS, publish previously created or recently changed requirements documents from DOORS into MatrixOne Product Central, establish traceability between requirements and product features, and navigate from requirements viewed in MatrixOne Product Central to the source document in DOORS.
