B2eMarkets Acquires AdaptiveTrade

Adds decision-optimization software to its strategic sourcing lineup

Rockville, MD — February 23, 2004 — Strategic sourcing specialist B2eMarkets is acquiring the assets of AdaptiveTrade, a provider of decision-optimization software.

Many requests for proposal (RFPs) are complex, containing thousands of line items and are bid upon by hundreds of suppliers with various pricing models. As a result, sourcing professionals must consider the interdependencies between thousands of line items and hundreds of bids.

AdaptiveTrade is currently a B2eMarkets partner. AdaptiveTrade's Bid Optimization software, already integrated into B2eMarkets' product suite, will be renamed B2eMarkets Optimization and sold as an embedded option in B2eMarkets' NegotiationManager XE.

B2e says that AdaptiveTrade's optimization software enables buyers to simultaneously evaluate all supplier bids while incorporating business rules, procurement policies and other non-price factors such as quality, delivery schedules and current contract compliance. AdaptiveTrade's software helps buyers conduct more extensive what-if analyses to compare various trade-offs and purchase options to arrive at the best award decision, according to B2e.

"We believe that companies must go beyond auctions and eRFX to achieve sustainable benefits and drive organizational transformation," said Orville Bailey, president and CEO of B2eMarkets. "Optimization is a key component in enabling this transformation."

Analyst David Hope-Ross of technology consultancy Gartner, has said that decision optimization creates business value because it enables buyers to make better sourcing decisions. "Optimization is fast becoming a market requirement because, in the real world, conscientious buyers strive to strike the best balance between cost, quality, risk and innovation," Hope-Ross said.
