Shoe company sees Intentia as good fit with apparel industry-specific solution

Schaumburg, IL — March 23, 2004 — The Red Wing Shoe Co. has signed up to use an apparel industry-specific solution from Intentia to integrate business processes, operations and performance management across its corporate headquarters and various manufacturing and warehouse sites.

Known for its leather shoes and boots, Red Wing manufactures products mainly in the United States, as well as in other countries, and markets globally through diverse channels. The privately held corporation, founded in 1905, is based in Red Wing, Minn.

The company signed a contract in December to license and implement Intentia's Movex Fashion, an integrated suite of collaborative enterprise applications designed specifically for the fashion, apparel, footwear and other sewn products industries.

Red Wing will install the Java version of Movex at its corporate headquarters, its footwear manufacturing and leather tanning sites in Red Wing, two footwear factories in Danville, Ky., and Potosi, Mo., and six warehouses worldwide. The system will run on an IBM iSeries and will ultimately serve over 250 users.

According to Ann Florine, Red Wing's enterprise resource planning (ERP) project manager, the firm sought an extended enterprise system that would provide its more than 2,000 employees with ready access to timely, accurate information to better serve customer needs, and a system that would enable the company to meet evolving market opportunities.

Ultimately the shoe company plans to implement the entire Movex suite, including Intentia's Corporate Portal, Workplace, e-Business, Advanced Production Planning, Supply Chain Planning & Execution and Business Performance Warehouse applications.

"We selected Movex Fashion because it has the functionality to meet the unique needs of our business and processes," said Florine. "In addition, it gives us a fully integrated system, complete with [application programming interfaces (APIs)] to provide 'hooks' between Movex and external applications. These were key decision factors, as was Intentia's Implex implementation methodology which provides us with a clear framework to keep the project focused and results-oriented."

Florine continue: "With Movex, we will be able to provide our customers with products and information when and how they want to receive them. At the same time, we expect to reduce or eliminate redundancies in processes and systems, to shorten cycle times and be able to access and analyze information to support decision making."
