Utilities solution provider adopts Frictionless Commerce apps, signs up Florida Power & Light to use sourcing software

The Woodlands, TX — March 30, 2004 — Utilities supply chain solution provider Pantellos has debuted a new suite of e-sourcing solutions designed to provide supply chain executives with a centralized application to help automate the supply chain lifecycle, improve spending controls and achieve cost savings.

Pantellos also announced that Florida Power & Light (FPL) is among the first customers to have signed multi-year agreements for the new sourcing solution, dubbed OneSource.

The new offering, based on a solution from Frictionless Commerce, provides a suite of enterprise license, hosted and ASP-based e-sourcing solutions. Pantellos said that OneSource, available now, automates the sourcing process for goods and services, from opportunity identification, project execution, supplier relationship management, contract compliance and results implementation.

Based upon Frictionless' sourcing platform and Pantellos' e-sourcing methodologies, OneSource solutions are intended to replace manual processes associated with traditional paper-based transactions and aggregate, manage and track all sourcing activities from a single enterprise application.

"Utility and energy supply chain executives face the daunting task of enforcing consistency throughout their sourcing and procurement activities so that they can eliminate supply chain inefficiencies, rein in their costs, generate synergies and ensure regulatory compliance," said Jim Neikirk, president and CEO of Pantellos. "By providing a single point of control for the entire sourcing process, Pantellos OneSource delivers the consistency and discipline executives need to transform their business processes, automate their supply chains and ultimately deliver greater shareholder value."

In addition to electronic auctions and request for quote/proposal (RFx) sourcing modules, Pantellos offers specific modules for each sourcing function, including Project Management, Contract Management, Vendor Management, Analysis, Demand Aggregation, Advanced Workflow and RFQuick.

The solution modules are supported by Pantellos professional and support services, including ROI analysis, event support, training and implementation, program management, technical support and integration with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, according to the solution provider.

Because of the modular design of OneSource, customers can choose to begin deploying a solution with any module, allowing for a "start anywhere" approach to addressing their most critical sourcing needs, Pantellos said. The provider also says that OneSource solutions integrate with existing e-business processes and ERP/legacy systems as well as the Pantellos Marketplace, Pantellos' e-procurement solutions and the Pantellos eSettlement Network.

Pantellos also announced that Florida Power & Light (FPL) has signed a multi-year agreement for OneSource. Leveraging its connection to the Pantellos Marketplace, FPL has contracted for an ASP-based version of Pantellos OneSource and has implemented the Auctions, RFx and Project Management modules.

"As part of our quest to transform and electronically enable our supply chain organization, we conducted a comprehensive search to find one company that provides both electronic procurement and supply chain services and one company that could meet our diverse utility-specific needs," said Gerald Thompson, director of strategic sourcing at Florida Power & Light. "The combination of the Pantellos OneSource and Marketplace solutions, their utility industry expertise and managed supply chain services made Pantellos a value-added choice."
