Steel industry supplier looks to Web-based solution to automate import, export operations
Westfield, NJ — May 10, 2004 — Forwarding Services International (FSI), the global logistics services arm of Midrex Technologies, has selected global trade management software from QuestaWeb to automate its import and export operations.
Midrex is an international process engineering and technology company that provides global process technology solutions. The company is the leading technology supplier of direct reduction for the iron and steel industry.
The company's FSI unit will deploy QuestaWeb's TradeMasterQW to streamline tracking, logistics, import and export management functions. QuestaWeb said that TradeMasterQW proactively manages the export and import processes for importers, exporters, forwarders and brokers, thereby streamlining cross-border operations.
The TradeMasterQW business model unifies trade, logistics, compliance and financial processes with an eye to promoting worldwide collaboration. The centralized global database maintains up-to-date import and export content, and it supports multiple languages, industries, currencies and time zones, QuestaWeb said.
The provider said that the solution can help accelerate the flow of goods across the global supply chain, reduce inventory and operational costs, and ensure compliance with ever-changing cross-border regulations.
Donald Brooks, operations manager at FSI, said that QuestaWeb's newest technology and functionality would allow his company to take advantage of Web-native integrated software, the solution's centralized database and its multilingual capabilities.

Midrex is a wholly owned subsidiary of Kobe Steel, Ltd. headquartered in Charlotte, N.C. The company produces more than 60 percent of the world's direct reduced iron, a high-purity metallic iron used in steelmaking, iron making and foundry applications.
