Regional retailer adds Manhattan Associates solution to WMS for measuring, managing workforce productivity
Atlanta — June 24, 2004 — Hardware retailer Northern Tool & Equipment Company is set to use a supply chain execution solution from Manhattan Associates to provide labor management capabilities for its catalogue and retail distribution centers (DCs).
Burnsville, Minn.-based Northern Tool, which is privately held, serves the do-it-yourself and commercial markets through 44 stores in 10 states, as well as through online and print catalog channels.
The retailer plans to use Manhattan Associates' supply chain execution (SCE) solutions to accurately measure and manage the productivity of its DC workforce. The company chose to implement this solution to complement its existing warehouse management solution from Manhattan.
It is vital for Northern Tool to be able to effectively monitor performance levels in real time and view workloads across functional areas. Manhattan says its Labor Management application enables this, while analyzing overall efficiencies to deploy resources for maximum productivity. The retailer will begin implementation of this solution in mid-2004.
"As we expand our retail operations and enhance our overall supply chain processes, it is critical that we also implement a labor management program that provides us with sophisticated analysis and reporting capabilities," said Matt Klaren, director of distribution for Northern Tool. "We have found that Manhattan Associates' Labor Management application can complement our existing warehouse management system, providing the integral data to manage and enhance overall labor performance."
Manhattan says its Labor Management application can be implemented as an integrated component of an overall logistics solution or as a standalone application. The solution offers measurement and reporting capabilities against performance standards including engineered labor standards, team standards and reflective standards.
Eddie Capel, vice president of product management and trading partner management with Manhattan, emphasized that the provider has focused on developing logistics solutions that can be implemented as an integrated whole or as individual point solutions to meet specific business needs.
