Signs on with Nistevo Network to dynamically optimize shipments, reduce overall logistics costs

Minneapolis — July 7, 2004 — John Morrell & Co., a supplier of fresh pork and processed meats, has signed onto a collaborative logistics network run by Nistevo in a bid to gain the ability to dynamically optimize its shipments to reduce overall logistics costs and secure needed capacity more efficiently.

The second division within Smithfield Foods to select the Nistevo Network, John Morrell will use the network as a standard transportation management foundation across its locations and Smithfield supply chain partners with an eye toward helping improve overall customer service.

"After hearing of the success of Gwaltney, a sister division within Smithfield, we clearly saw the advantages of a network-based transportation management system and specifically, Nistevo," said Joe Dobler, director of distribution/logistics at John Morrell. "By selecting Nistevo, we feel assured of a rapid deployment, connected carriers and comprehensive [transportation management system (TMS)] capabilities. The synergies gained by sharing the same TMS foundation as other Smithfield divisions further supported our decision to select Nistevo."

Nistevo said its network members have the ability to transact business electronically with any of the carriers or shippers already connected to the network, or to connect additional carriers and shippers as needed. Also, the network provides members real-time visibility to in-transit orders across the supply chain, Nistevo said.

Nistevo's other clients include Church & Dwight, Dial, General Mills and Seneca Foods, among others.
