Completes Staffware acquisition; offers business process management vision to address needs of IT, business users
Palo Alto, CA — July 14, 2004 — B2B integration specialist TIBCO Software has completed its acquisition of business process management (BPM) player Staffware and unveiled a new BPM roadmap intended to address the needs of both IT and business users.
Staffware will now be called the TIBCO BPM Group, and TIBCO said it would continue to support all existing customers. The acquisition initially was announced on April 22.
The TIBCO BPM product offering was designed to broaden solutions for automating and optimizing business processes, according to the solution provider. The BPM offering includes Staffware Process Suite, a solution providing such enterprise-wide BPM functionality as the capability to develop service-oriented architecture (SOA) solutions encompassing process design, a process engine and related components.
TIBCO said it is optimizing Staffware Process Suite to interoperate with TIBCO's business integration platform via new standards-based connectivity, a feature that is slated to be available in the fourth quarter.
The solution provider also said that it was adding new capabilities to Staffware Process Suite 3.0, including improved Microsoft .NET support, additional database and systems management integration, a new look process definer and, for the first time, a Linux version. In addition, business activity monitoring (BAM) and enterprise portal capabilities, as well as upgraded design and administration functionality, will be available in the first quarter of next year.
New TIBCO BusinessWorks capabilities for integration-driven projects will include the BusinessWorks Manual Activities Plug-in supporting exception processing and long-lived application-specific integration processes, and FormBuilder will support the design, deployment and management of real-time contextual forms and business interfaces. This functionality will be available in the fourth quarter of this year.
"In business process management, systems-to-systems integrations and human-to-human interactions within the context of a process are equally critical, therefore a TIBCO-Staffware integration is complementary and a very natural fit," said Hollis Bischoff, vice president of technology research services with META Group. "Business process management is still a green-field market. Vendors that capitalize on this by providing first class management of process components (systems, humans, tasks) will lead the market."
BPM enables companies to save time and money by driving costs and time out of business processes (for example, reducing error rates or manual steps), while at the same time ensuring that business processes are compliant with internal procedures and external regulations. End-to-end command and control over enterprise business processes and the ability to dynamically modify these processes enable organizations to quickly adapt to changing business conditions.
