Enterprise content management added to PLM suite designed for discrete, process manufacturers

Chicago — July 27, 2004 — SSA Global, a provider of extended enterprise solutions and services, today announced it is increasing its position in the product lifecycle management (PLM) market to help customers get the most value from all points in the product lifecycle, while also controlling and reducing costs and maintaining fluid integration across business units.

"Many of SSA Global's 13,000 customers, who are active in the manufacturing industry, can now take advantage of the SSA PLM solution," said Graeme Cooksley, executive vice president, SSA Global. "SSA PLM provides customers with engineering capabilities, document management for the entire enterprise, and end-to-end business processes automated by workflow. This allows manufacturers to manage product information and enterprise content between departments."

SSA said its Enterprise Content Management solution shares, manages and consolidates product data from different enterprise departments and extends the information to all organization levels. Organization members from separate departments can then use enterprise content and engineering information and incorporate it in their business processes.

SSA said the solution supports a manufacturer's PLM strategy to align inter-department communication with role-driven data access and visualization. The application functions as a product data navigator within an enterprise, working with various systems such as enterprise resource planning (ERP) and product data management (PDM) to manage and share product-related information across departments. It also closes the information gap between engineering and other departments by allowing various users controlled access to engineering data, such as product structures, drawings, and design files.
