OPERATIONSmanagement solution promises real-time, collaborative management of outbound rail shipments

Jacksonville Beach, FL — September 20, 2004 — ShipXpress, a supplier of supply chain management application software and services, has rolled out its OPERATIONSmanagement module as part of its Inventory-in-Motion suite of applications software.

OPERATIONSmanagement represents the latest ShipXpress application developed to increase efficiency in rail transportation by providing customers with an automated method to reduce transportation costs and improve inventory management.

The new solution enables receivers of rail freight to manage the process of ordering cars, unloading and creating loss and damage reports, releasing empty cars back into service, keeping track of demurrage, measuring on-time switch performance, service reliability, and vendor compliance.

ShipXpress says OPERATIONSmanagement customers benefit twice. First, by enabling them to provide better service to their customers; and second, by helping them do so at a lower overall cost.

OPERATIONSmanagement has been in full field deployment at a Fortune 100 building products distributor for over a year.

Capabilities and functionality in the solution include full integration with ShipXpress' suite of Inventory-in-Motion application; real-time collaboration with partners on compliance, loss and damage, and shortage issues; automatic updates to supply chain partners of events not reported by carriers; management and notification of car orders and releases to rail carriers; and detailed vendor/carrier performance monitoring.

"Using OPERATIONSmanagement, receivers of vendor managed inventory (VMI) can let their suppliers determine if a product is actually delivered or if the shipment has been rejected, or delayed and provides the associated reason," said Charith Perera, CEO of ShipXpress. "This allows the supplier and receiver to precisely manage inventory in their in-bound pipeline. By collaboratively accessing a common database of information, shippers, receivers and carriers can depend on one set of uniform measures, all adding up to better customer service and an improved bottom line."
