Taps QAD to boost productivity, responsiveness to customers

Carpinteria, CA — October 15, 2004 — QAD Inc., a provider of enterprise applications for global manufacturers, today announced that Jamieson Laboratories has extended its use of QAD solutions to two recent acquisitions, PanGeo Pharma's Wampole and Quest brands.

Jamieson said it expanded its commitment to QAD software for real-time insight into the status of manufacturing and inventory. Canada's largest manufacturer and distributor of natural healthcare products, Jamieson also depends on QAD MFG/PRO to manage production, monitor the progress of validation and make projections based on accurate information. Armed with up-to-date information, the company said it can better synchronize supply with demand and report efficiently to customers and regulatory agencies.

Founded in 1922, Jamieson Laboratories is a world leader in the manufacturing of premium quality supplements. Canada's No. 1 brand is also exported to more than 30 countries. Its formulation and validated manufacturing process, PharmaSure 211 BioTechnology, integrates more than 200 controls and procedures that are among Health Canada's Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards for the pharmaceuticals industry.

Jamieson said it deployed MFG/PRO to automate manufacturing operations and gain access to production data. Additionally, the company said it has made productivity gains using MFG/PRO, such as reports are now generated automatically.

Integrated with Jamieson's legacy systems, the solution has also helped eliminate manual data entry, cutting up to one-and-a-half days from physical inventory. Jamieson also said it has more options to tailor information to suit customer needs.

"Because QAD MFG/PRO features address the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry, we were able to transform our processes quickly for significant returns such as stronger customer relationships," said Greg Sasso, manager of information systems, Jamieson Laboratories. "By equipping Jamieson with greater insight into manufacturing data, the QAD solution also better prepares us to respond to and comply with regulations evolving worldwide, such as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's plans to revise rules for quality testing."

According to Pamela Lopker, QAD president and founder, "To compete successfully on a global scale, it is imperative for pharmaceutical manufacturers such as Jamieson Labs to streamline access to data — whether for rigorous formulation and testing regulations, production adjustments to align inventory with accurate demand forecasts, or transactions in multiple languages and currencies."

Lopker said MFG/PRO is designed to meet the needs of the medical industries, including medical device, pharmaceutical and biotechnology manufacturers. QAD MFG/PRO functions include compliance support; pre-defined validation methods; lot control to meet FDA requirements; repetitive and batch process manufacturing; and development, specification, purchasing and quality management capabilities.
