Implements enterprise data warehouse initiative to arm fighters with combat support information

McLean, VA, and Redwood City, CA September 3, 2003 BearingPoint Inc., a business consulting and systems integration firm, and Informatica Corp., a provider of data integration and business intelligence software, this week announced that the U.S. Air Force's Material Systems Group/Enterprise Data Solutions (MSG/ESD) program office has implemented the Informatica PowerCenter data integration solution.

Implemented for its Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW), MSG/ESD said it is using the solution to enable supply chain analytics capabilities that give its war fighters more accurate, reliable and readily-accessible logistics information to support combat initiatives.

Representing the Air Force's first enterprise-wide data warehousing initiative, the EDW provides members of the Air Force from commanders to logisticians with Web access to integrated combat-support data. Integrating information from 26 legacy systems, including maintenance, supply, transportation and financial data repositories, the EDW augments the war fighter's ability to retrieve and analyze accurate, real-time supply chain data on aircraft-combat status, availability of critical parts, outstanding maintenance orders and the status of financial transactions.

"The EDW consolidates large volumes of data from disparate systems, providing our personnel with a single online resource to make faster, more informed supply chain decisions," said Mike Riley, EDW program manager, U.S. Air Force. "Leveraging data integration technology we have successfully consolidated data from 26 legacy systems into one robust, scalable data system to improve our operational efficiency."

"Government agencies require the ability to rapidly access, integrate and analyze data to fulfill evolving mission requirements," said Sanjay Poonen, senior vice president of worldwide marketing at Informatica. "Informatica is proud to play a role in this Air Force initiative by providing our data integration solution to support this example of today's progressive government."
