Automatic identification specialist taps provider of image-based data collection solutions to deliver technology for U.S. Department of Defense

Skaneateles Falls, NY — November 19, 2004 — Automatic data collection specialist Intermec Technologies Corp. has selected Hand Held Products, a provider of image-based mobile data collection solutions, to help deliver greater logistical efficiencies within all branches of the U.S. Department of Defense.

Over the next five years, Intermec Technologies will use Hand Held's Adaptus Imaging Technology platform to deliver bar code reading and image capture capabilities as part of the automatic identification technology contract recently awarded by the U.S. Army's Product Manager, Joint-Automatic Identification Technology (PM J-AIT) office.

The AIT-III initiative is designed to provide timely asset visibility in the department's global logistics pipeline, whether in process, in storage or in transit. Intermec will supply a line of advanced mobile computing, wireless communications and data collection systems and services.

Hand Held Products could deliver more than 60,000 image engines for integration in Intermec portable data terminals and Hand Held Products IMAGETEAM 4800 2D Industrial Hand Held imagers.

Powered by HHP's exclusive Adaptus Imaging Technology, the IT 4800 Industrial 2D Imager delivers high reading performance, versatility and ease-of-use, Hand Held said. Housed in a durable package, the IT 4800 reads linear, 2D and PDF bar codes, captures digital images and signatures for proof of delivery and condition, and reads bar codes omni-directionally, according to Hand Held.

"In addition to superior durability characteristics, our Adaptus Imaging Technology platform will help Intermec deliver an incredibly versatile and flexible data collection solution," said Kevin Jost, president and CEO of Hand Held Products.

"Hand Held Products is an integral part of Intermec's AIT-III team," said Intermec Executive Vice President Steve Winter. "Hand Held Products offers a vital combination of application knowledge, engineering expertise and experience, all critical components of this important work."
