Retailer implementing sourcing solution to improve processes for importing private label merchandise

Richmond, CA September 19, 2003 Solution provider QRS reported this week that Saks Inc., one of the leading U.S. retailers, has selected QRS' sourcing solution in a bid to improve its processes for importing private label merchandise.

Saks operates its Saks Department Store Group (SDSG) with 242 department stores under various names, in addition to 62 Saks Fifth Avenue stores and 53 Saks Off 5th stores.

A long-time customer for QRS' Exchange and Catalogue solutions, Saks has expanded its relationship with QRS to include the sourcing solution for enhanced visibility, vendor collaboration and process management in its private label program.

Saks had several interdependent objectives, including controlling expenses by shifting from a guaranteed landed cost to a first-cost structure; reducing design-to-delivery cycle times; and providing seamless visibility and integrated workflow across its divisions.

To meet these objectives, Saks sought a solution that could be implemented across its entire global supply chain. QRS says that Sourcing is capable of providing the company with the technology and services to streamline operations, helping to create an efficient sourcing model and providing Saks' personnel with standardized tools and processes for sharing product information both internally and externally.

"After reviewing the marketplace, we recognized QRS Sourcing as a market-leading application," said William Franks, executive vice president and chief information officer for Saks. "QRS Sourcing will help us manage our cost structure, improve communication and collaboration with our vendors, and enhance our supply chain operations, with the goal of bringing our private label brands to the market more quickly and effectively."

"QRS Sourcing will help Saks get its private label merchandise to the right place at the right time by improving visibility across its supply chain," said Liz Fetter, president and CEO of QRS.
