Dubai Police Promote Community Outreach

New business information delivery solutions allow mobile access to corporate data

Bellevue, WA September 24, 2003 With over 700 employees at Dubai Police in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), over 2,000 land lines, countless mobile phones, 178 individual fax machines, group and individual e-mail addresses, and information coming from the public via their Web page, something had to be done to sort through and correctly interpret communications being received, lest the vast amount cripple the organization.

Captain Khalid Nasser Al Razooqi, e-Operations Department, who led the Dubai Police implementation team explains, "We leave no stone unturned to make Dubai Police more efficient and more helpful to the community. Understanding that two-way communication with the public is paramount for success, we have to be available 24/7. Once we reached communication overload we realized we could not turn the information away, but had to find a smarter way of dealing with it."

As a result, the Dubai Police selected Captaris Inc., a provider of business information delivery solutions, to implement its solutions, which are comprised of RightFax enterprise fax and e-document delivery, CallXpress voice mail and unified messaging solution, and Infinite Mobile Delivery server-based wireless solutions.

Captaris said its solutions allow the Dubai Police to react quickly to confidential information received by phone, fax and e-mail.

The Dubai Police implemented the Captaris solutions on their existing Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. Already comfortable with using the features of Microsoft Outlook 2000, the Dubai Police wanted to ensure their employees would be able to use the Captaris solutions without the need for organization-wide training. Choosing the Microsoft-compliant Captaris solutions met that goal, the organization said.

Dubai Police said they are also now benefiting from mobile access to the information that is usually tied to their office desktop. In this case three solutions were implemented. The first is RightFax, which is an enterprise fax and e-document delivery solution. RightFax integrates and automates the flow of a full range of fax, paper and electronic documents and data from any application via fax, e-mail, print devices or over the Internet.

The second is the CallXpress voice mail and unified messaging solution, which provides Dubai Police's office and mobile workers with centralized access and management of voice, fax and e-mail.

Finally, the Infinite family of server-based wireless solutions offers secure access for Dubai Police to any device, over any network from any application. Captaris said the solution has already reduced workers' retrieval time by 70 percent compared to traditional methods.

Captain Razooqi reported: "We now have access to messages at any time, using different channels from wherever we are. We can call in to listen to e-mails or voice messages and log-in on our mobile phone to access messages. We get our faxes forwarded to any fax machine and accessing all is possible on the Web."
