Claims to accelerate compliance for such programs as the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, HIPAA and Basel II

Austin, TX — October 15, 2003 — Vignette Corp. today announced that it has enhanced the business process management capabilities of its content management, portal and integration products to support organizational compliance.

With the Vignette V7 family of products, the provider said organizations could accelerate and enhance compliance for such programs as the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, HIPAA and Basel II.

In a July 1, 2003, AMR Research Outlook research alert about Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, John Hagerty, vice president of research for AMR Research Inc., stated that "understanding the right business data, improving its quality (if necessary) and combining it with the right content from multiple sources is critical to having a complete picture of company performance."

Companies that are publicly traded or operate in highly regulated industries, as well as governmental entities worldwide, are increasingly focused on automating compliance workflows. Safety-Kleen is one such company, providing industrial waste management products to a wide variety of companies across the United States and Canada. The company also uses Vignette V7 to manage its Material Safety Data Sheets, which are a part of its regulatory compliance program.

Toni Bulla, IT manager for CRM/Web at Safety-Kleen Systems Inc., explained, "We have hundreds of Material Safety Data Sheets at any given time, all of which have to be reviewed by internal experts before they are filed with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. So the ability to rapidly locate the exact document and know that it is accurate is a key benefit for our customers, employees and partners."

Through engagements with organizations such as Safety-Kleen, Vignette said it has identified some of the key IT requirements for compliance initiatives:

  • Organizations must deliver the right real-time information, wherever it exists in the enterprise, to the right person at the right time to help ensure regulatory compliance and reduce the risk of sanction or penalty.

  • Organizations must be responsive to new compliance requirements and changes to existing rules that govern their business. Delays in response times introduce costs and business risk.

  • Organizations need to rationalize the IT costs and complexity of managing their compliance initiatives to maintain an advantage over their competitors.

"Vignette is delivering the functionality to enable organizations to meet the complex demands of predictable, responsible business operations," said Dave Shirk, senior vice president of product strategy and marketing at Vignette. "Regulatory compliance and defined business processes are now 'top of mind' for private- and public-sector organizations. Vignette addresses these needs by providing accurate solutions to help our customers gain control of their regulatory compliance challenges."
